Hello, I’m returning to work after 15yrs and want to refresh my Microsoft Excel, word and powerpoint skills. I have a new MacBook Air and Microsoft Office 365 on my Mac which is what I would using to practice on. I’m looking for advice on where to start?

I would look at doing both. If you have moderate Excel skills, then why not go for Expert skills. In addition, knowing a little bit about a lot could put you in a better position to get better jobs or a promotion.
I would also say that you could get Microsoft certifications which would help prove your skills, but unfortunately you cannot currently take Microsoft certifications in Iran.

I am taking your DA-100 course, and your PL-900 course is next. I’m grateful for your concise, step-by-step lessons, and find that you have been more consistent than others in aspects like updating, addressing what might be different in our work compared to yours, and not getting ahead of what we have completed so we have to troubleshoot things like unlocking in PowerApps. I absolutely need to go along with the lessons step by step, with my coursework concurring with the instructional videos.
Also, maybe it’s because I’m a Yank from Texas, but I’ve found that when I slow your courses to 0.75 or 0.5, you start sounding like Sir David Attenborough!

Good afternoon Phillip, as a professional in the field I was wondering if you believe that database skills are an important asset to have for all IT professions. And if so do you think that database certifications should be more of a requirement for those entering the tech field?
Hi Devin. I think that certifications are useful for 2 reasons. Firstly, so that you can do a wide number of things, including things that you may not have come across in your work. It gives you a list of requirements which can be fairly comprehensive. Secondly, it proves to others that you can do it, and it is not just your word against others. The alternative to certifications is experience – but why not have both? 🙂 Phillip

I have successfully passed the MO-100 exam and have received the hard copy from Microsoft with the Certification ID and temporary password. But I don’t see any way to link that to my Microsoft account. When I log in to http://www.microsoft.com/de-de/learning/dashboard, (I’m from Germany) I’m asked for my regular Microsoft account and when I log in with that, I can’t access my certificate. Do you have any experience with this? Microsoft support has not been able to help me with this.

My PL-200 course is going to be a follow-up to my PL-100 course, as all of the requirements in the PL-100 are included in the PL-200, so I am not covering them a second (or third!) time.
Therefore, if you want to get read for the PL-200 course, I would suggest taking my PL-100 course now, and when you have finished, my PL-200 course will then be available, and you can see what additional topics you then need.

Are you considering doing a course on BIML or a more advanced SSIS course that deals with more production like scenarios? There aren’t many resources on learning BIML.

I have a question about your Udemy course PL-100: Microsoft Power Platform Apps Maker. Is the course built on itself, as in, do I need to go through the whole course lecture after lecture? Or can I hop around the lectures? Specifically for the Power Apps sections and lectures. I am already familiar with Power Apps and before purchasing the course I wanted to know if I can pick and choose which lectures I want to go over, or if I need to go through the lectures one after the other in order to build the apps features/items/components of what you teach in the course. Basically, does the Power App section build on itself and would I feel lost if I skipped over lectures?
Hi Joe. Thank you for the question about my PL-100 course. At the beginning of the course, we create an environment with sample data. After that, each program is self-contained – so you could do the model-driven app section and not do the canvas apps, or you can start with Power Automate or AI Builder. However, within (especially) the canvas Power Apps section, we develop a Power App with multiple screens. You could probably do the later part of canvas apps without doing the first part, though.
